March Madness and More
March is a busy month full of fun holidays and activities. There’s Paczki Day, St. Patrick’s Day, March Madness, and Spring Break! With so many fun activities to participate in, it can feel overwhelming to plan the perfect celebration. In this post, we will share our recommendations for how to celebrate all your favorite March moments.
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at McHenry Sham-Rocks the Fox:
St. Patrick’s Day is one of the most lively days of the year. It’s a day where delicious food is eaten and the color green is ever present. If you live in the Gerstad Builders Liberty Trails community, head to downtown McHenry on Saturday, March 12 for St. Patrick’s Day activities. The day kicks off at 8am at McHenry High School East Campus for the annual 5K Shamrock Shuffle.
The festivities continue, so head over to Blarney Island to watch the famous tradition of dyeing the Fox River green! If you are interested in attending, plan on lining up along the Fox River between Pearl Street and Highway 120 around 10 a.m. to experience the fun for yourself.
Who doesn’t love a good parade? The clowns, decorated cars, floats, and candy all come together to create a magic experience for you and your loved ones! The St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off at 12pm and starts on Kane Ave by Duker and ends at Veteran’s Park.
The Fox River is not the only thing that will be green. From 10:30am – 11pm, Miller Point will feature live music, beer tents, face painting, kids games, and free inflatable bounce houses. You’ll also be able to enjoy a variety of food trucks including:

- Fork n Fry
- Wisconsin BBQ
- Kissed by Fire
The fun doesn’t end at 11pm on Saturday. St. Patrick’s Day celebrations continued with jam-packed activities throughout the whole day. From 12pm – 7pm at Miller Park, the beer tent will reopen and all the activities continue. The weekend wraps up with a gorgeous fireworks display at Miller Point. Bring your chairs and blankets and find that perfect spot.
