McHenry IL real estateUntil November 6th of 2009, only first-time homebuyers could qualify for a federal tax credit of $8,000 toward the purchase of a new home. On that date Congress expanded its Tax Credit program to include all other home buyers looking to purchase a new home. Families who have lived in their home a minimum of five years, may qualify for a maximum Federal Tax credit of $6,500 and first-time buyers a credit of $8,000. All buyers must sign a contract by April 30, 2010 and take occupancy of the home by June 30, 2010 to receive the Home Buyer Tax Credit.
