Support the Fight against Childhood Cancer at ‘Casting for Cures’ this May
Get ready for a day filled with family fun Saturday, May 3 at the Casting for Cures trout fishing event at Spring Grove Hatchery Park, hosted by Nicole Mendlik and the Cheri Amore Memorial. Proceeds raised will be donated to the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer (MACC) Fund, a non-profit organization that supports research into the effective treatment and cure of childhood cancer and other related blood disorders. The event will be held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will have a variety of exciting activities for all ages, including trout fishing, fly fishing lessons, games, crafts, face painting, a petting zoo, raffles, a silent auction, trackless train rides and a princess meet and greet.
Come and celebrate the gift of life and honor the memory of Cheri Amore, an “exceptional and energetic young lady who passed away at the very young age of 17,” after battling leukemia for 14 years, according to the Casting for Cures website. The event will also honor 6-year-old Nicole Mendlik, who was described as “an outgoing, determined young girl who continues her fight to overcome Aplastic Anemia.”
Through the success of the MACC Fund, families and the children affected by these diseases will continue to find hope and progress in treatments that may eventually lead to a cure and you can help! Contributions to the fund can be made online at Casting for Cures or during the live and silent auctions on the day of the event. Monetary donations must be received by May 1 in order to be recognized in the program and on the website.
