With snow falling on a regular basis, it's time for our McHenry, Williams Bay, Poplar Grove and Richmond homes residents to break out those skis, sleds, snowmobiles and skates for some winter weather fun!
Here's a look at some of our favorite places for winter recreation near our communities:
The Trails of Dawson Creek
Aldeen Park: Just a short drive away from Poplar Grove in Loves Park, this is a popular spot for snow sledding, which is allowed on the north side of the dam.
Regional Activity Center: Also located in Loves Park, this is the home of some of the best local cross-country skiing thanks to a partnership between Paddle and Trail and Rockford Park District. […]
Winter Fun Near McHenry New Homes
Are you and your family anxiously awaiting the first snowfall and all the winter activities near your McHenry new homes that come with it? Well, be sure to include sledding in your winter plans. McHenry Township Park's Sledding Hill is an obstacle free sledding run that extends 300 feet. Adults will often enjoy this experience as much as the kids do.
The downhill path extends out into the soccer fields for maximum coasting. There should be at least 2 feet of snow and no visible grass. So, be sure to obey the signs posted that clearly state if the hill is open.
For your safety there is a wide platform walkway with railings for the uphill traffic. The re-grated hill also has permanent fences erected at the top of the hill and partially down the slope.
There is lighting for after dark sledding which is perfect for teenagers and adult enjoyment. The area has ample parking and also offers an enclosed winter shelter with picnic tables, restrooms and a fireplace for warming (with the wood provided by the township). Since the Sledding Hill is not supervised, McHenry Township is not responsible for any injuries. […]
Winterfest 2011 in Lake Geneva, Wis. is what February is all about. This year’s celebration offered fun for the whole family. Whether you wanted to get out of your Williams Bay new homes to enjoy snow and ice or to relax with a cup of hot chocolate, you found it at Winterfest.
The highlight of the event was the U.S. National Snow Sculpting Championship. Artists from near and far came together during the celebration to create masterpieces from 3-ton cylinders of snow. This year’s first place winner was “Mercury Racing Pegasus” sculpted by Dave Andrews, Chris Andrews and Jack Lullo; sculpture sponsored by Land’s End. […]

Located at the McHenry Township Park on Route 31 North, is a good sized hill ready and just waiting for snow.
