Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Exhibit Opens in McHenry County

McHenry County new home at Liberty TrailsThe holidays aren’t over yet! The McHenry County Historical Society and Museum just opened its popular Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Exhibit. This year is even more special because it marks the 75th anniversary of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’s birth.

75 years ago, author Robert L. May created an original Christmas story for the Montgomery Ward department store. More than two million storybooks were given out to Wards’ customers in 1939 alone. Then, a decade later, songwriter Johnny Marks put the story to music. By the time that the cartoon came out in 1948, the red-nosed reindeer had already gone down in history.

The Rudolph exhibit contains memorabilia from Dave Harms of Crystal Lake. His passion for Christmas became a hobby after he joined the Golden Glow of Christmas Past, a worldwide club for collectors of Christmas antiques. During the exhibit, visitors can view blankets, shirts, furniture, a wooden riding stick, a papier-mâché Rudolph head and more. Plus, for a donation to the Society, take a picture on or near the motorized, vintage, coin-operated Rudolph ride!

The exhibit is open from 1 to 4 p.m. each day through January 9. For more details, call 815-923-2267. After seeing Rudolph and his very shiny nose in all of its glory, be sure to tour our nearby McHenry County new homes. At our Liberty Trails community, prices start from $198,900 to $308,490.
