McHenry County Residents Prepare to Get Crafty at Fair Diddley
It’s that time of year again! The 46th annual Fair Diddley is fast approaching and is expected to once again draw thousands of people into the historic Woodstock Square to browse handmade crafts from a wide variety of vendors. This family-friendly event will take place on Sunday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is a beloved tradition that many members of the community look forward to each year.
The annual craft fair is hosted by the Mental Health Resource League (MHRL) for McHenry County, a volunteer driven organization that provides financial aid to non-profit mental health-related agencies within the county. Groups benefitting include Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County, Options and Advocacy for McHenry County, the Senior Care Volunteer Network, the Family Health Partnership Clinic, and many more. See the full listing here.
Fair Diddley has grown significantly since its humble beginnings in 1969, when the first event netted $500. With the help and enthusiasm from local artisans, volunteers and McHenry residents, the MHRL has since raised more than $4.8 million in funds.
Both admission to the fair and parking are free! The wonderful arts and crafts options will range from handmade jewelry, to folk art, to woodcarvings and more. Be sure to bring your appetite with you, as food vendors will be on-site to satisfy your cravings.
